Jed Etchells of St Mark’s is one step away from securing the Youth 125cc class in the FIM Enduro World Championship.
The 20-year-old took his tally to five wins out of six with a two-day double in the Marco de Canaveses area of northern Portugal over the weekend.
It looked for a while that Spain’s Sergio Navarro would bring the Manxman’s winning streak to an end on Saturday.
But the Fantic D’Arpa Racing rider managed to rack up victory number four by a margin of more than 30 seconds over his Husqvarna rival.
Italy’s Claudio Spanu (Husqvarna) once again completed the podium ahead of Harry Edmondon (Fantic) and Finland’s Hermanni Haljal (Beta).
More rain in the Porto region overnight into Sunday made the event the toughest of the reduced series to date. But Etchells again rode well to claim his fifth consecutive victory in the youth category.
Once more he was forced to work hard to thwart the attacks of Navarro, who finished only 16 seconds behind, with Spanu again third and Paul Eddy’s son Harry fourth.
’What a weekend. One of the craziest events yet,’ posted Jed on Facebook.
’Managed to take the double win in Portugal. Really happy with my riding, it was definitely a push all weekend with a couple of bruises. The team did an excellent job, can’t thank them enough and all of my personal sponsors!!’
