Newly-crowned British Indoor 800m champion Joe Reid will be back in action at the Muller Grand Prix in Birmingham this Saturday.

The 22-year-old won the title after Liverpool’s Jamie Webb was disqualified for allegedly impeding Guy Learmonth, the runner who crossed the finish line directly behind Reid.

It was an unexpected victory for the young Manxman, but he fell marginally short of the 1min 48sec time he required to gain GB selection for the forthcoming European Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.

He has another chance to gain qualification on the same Birmingham Arena track this Saturday at the Muller GP, recognised as one of the best indoor meets in the world.

The event is being televised live on BBC1 and the 800m shoot-out is scheduled for 3.22pm.

It has been a whirlwind month for Reid, who gained his first England vest at the Vienna Indoor Classic on January 26.
