Andreas man Darren Kennish is the number one disability and paradarts player in the country for the second year in succession.
The 49-year-old played four ranking events last winter, qualifying sixth and ultimately winning the World Paradarts Wheelchair Online Masters title.
In the last 16 he won 4-0 against Jesper Anderson from Denmark, then scored another 4-0 win over Gianni Piccolo of Italy in the quarter-finals before beating Ian Lewis of England 5-1 in the semis.
He then defeated his regular pairs partner, Mark Couchman of Northern Ireland, 5-0 in the final to become the 2021 champion.
More recently he became the BDDA Red Dragon Welsh Wheelchair Classic Champion, winning 4-1 in the final against Kevin Stringer of England, having beaten Amar Dehar 4-0 in the semi-finals. This carried for BDDA ranking points.
The following day he became the BDDA Red Dragon Welsh Wheelchair Open Champion, again defeating Stringer in the final (4-2) after topping his group in the round-robin and beating Mick Jones 4-0 in the semi-finals. This was for World Paradarts ranking points.
This made him British No.1 for the second year running and the currently joint No.2 in the World Paradarts Wheelchair section.
World Paradarts is to be included in the Isle of Man Festival of Darts next March, with players expected to travel from as far afield as America and New Zealand to participate.
Kennish, known as ’Manx Magic’ on the national and international stages, has been selected to play singles for the Celtic Nations team at the World Trophy event taking place in Ostend, Belgium from November 26-28. His ever-supportive wife Janice is the Celtic Nations team co-ordinator for Belgium.
Other titles include the BDDA Winmau Wheelchair Classic and Open titles, and the BDDA Eastbourne Wheelchair Open winner, runner-up in the Classic.
He has so far raised £10,000 for Prostate Cancer, having started raising money for the charity with a group named Team Darts, which ultimate aim is to raise £501,000. Darren has been selling prostate cancer badges, signed darts shirts, pictures, sets of darts and other signed memorabilia. He said he would like to hear from anyone willing to donate or may have any items that could be auctioned to raise funds for the charity.
He thanks Horizon Darts/Laserdarts for the continued sponsorship they give him, but is always looking for more possible support. Email - [email protected]
