John Kennish clinched his third consecutive Fowler and Co Champion of Champions title with an emphatic 8-1 victory over David Addinall at the Cue Zone last weekend.

Earlier, Kennish had cruised into the final with a whitewash over Paul Smith. The latter couldn’t replicate the form he showed the previous weekend when he ousted Darryl Hill and, with breaks of 54, 53 and 32, Kennish quickly sealed the 5-0 win.

Frame scores 73-2, 62-29, 83-10, 54-44 and 89-9.

Addinall made his first CoC final after emphatically defeating an out-of-sorts Sean Corkish 5-1. With the first three frames close and low scoring with plenty of tactical play, Addinall pulled two clear for a 3-1 lead at the interval with an excellent 88 break.

Following the interval, Addinall quickly won the two frames he required. Frame scores 34-60, 62-25, 57-41, 114-8, 73-23 and 51-37.

In the two-session, best-of-15 final Kennish took control and built up a 3-0 lead during the afternoon with frame scores of 80-32, 55-15 and 65-33, before a near 54-minute battle went the same way 68-39.

In the first frame back after the interval, Addinall looked to start it more positively and was set to clinch his first frame needing a yellow to pink clearance, but missed the latter and Kennish took the two remaining colours for a 70-69 frame win and 5-0.

Addinall did get off the mark in the next with the highest break of the match, a 45 to win 1-77. He really needed the final frame of the session to give himself a realistic chance but, after 40 minutes, it was 6-1 to Kennish who took it 83-24.

The momentum continued into the evening session where Kennish quickly sealed the title, picking up the required two frames 66-27 and 75-26.

Congratulations go to Kennish and commiserations to Addinall who played a good tournament to be runner-up. Well done also to referee Dave Kelly who took charge of his first major final and did a great job, so thanks to him and Darryl Hill who marked the final.

Additional thanks to the latter who, as tournament director, made sure every session ran smoothly and as scheduled.

Kennish and Addinall were presented with their silver salver trophies by Vicky Fowler of Fowler and Co - organisers once again wish to thank them for their continued support of the event.

Thanks also to Brian Ellis for sponsoring the trophies again and to the Cue Zone for hosting the event.

It was great to be able to play an association event on the Star table and another well done to Kennish who only dropped two frames during the whole tournament, including a memorable century break.MIKE CROOK
