David Knight and Guy Martin are set to team up for the two-man quad bike class of this weekend’s Weston-Super-Mare Beach Race.
They’ve been offered a 1000cc twin by Polaris UK for the three-hour event.
’Like me, Guy is also entered for Sunday’s solo race, so Saturday will be a bit of a warm-up and a laugh,’ suggested David.
’The bike is very quick, it does about 120mph flat-out, but I have no idea how well Guy will get on with it. He’s been in America, but is coming back for Weston.’
The one hitch could be that Guy’s partner [Sharon] is expecting their first baby some day soon, so if the TT ace gets called away David has his brother Juan Knight on standby to take over on the quad.
David has won Weston a record six times on a solo, but back in 2002 he managed two wins over the same weekend as he also won the solo quad bike race. Juan is also previous winner of both events.
’I think Juan and I would have a better chance of winning,’ added David, who is one of a number of locals contesting this weekend’s HydroGarden-sponsored event.
He is riding a 350cc four-stroke KTM in the main solo race on Sunday when he will be bidding for a seventh victory.
Guy Martin’s steed for the solo race is a mighty Honda Africa-twin.
’He rode his own Triumph Tiger 800 at Mablethorpe earlier this year, but that was a pan-flat beach, he is going to really struggle over the sand hills at Weston,’ added Knight.
