The ever-popular Laa Columb Killey ’Marathon’ and junior sports take place today (Thursday), based in the field opposite Arbory Primary School.

The open sports take place from 4.30pm, while the loosely tagged marathon starts at 7pm from the field, heading south through Colby and turning left at Croit-e-Caley to the Kentraugh loop road.

The course follows the footpath to the eastern end of Gansey, up Fisher’s Hill and left at Ballakeighan, returning full circle back to the start/finish field via Ballabeg.

The total distance is 5.5 miles and all are welcome. A hearty supper is served later.

l Round three of Western Athletics Club’s Dave Phillips Memorial run series takes place this Friday.

Various races take place over Peel promenade and headlands areas. Sign on from 6pm close to Empire Garage showroom on the promenade.

The final round is on Friday, July 7.

l Northern Athletics Club is organising 5km and 10km road races on Tuesday, June 27 in the Ramsey area.

Both start at 7pm in Mooragh Park, signing on is from 6pm at the rugby clubhouse.

The 10k is a three-lap course round the Grand Island loop and is open to competitors who are 15 years or older.

The 5km is based around the Mooragh Park and follows a similar route to the Park runs but without the hills. This is open to 13 year olds and above.

Entries close next Friday, June 30 for the full marathon (50.5km), so far 67 have entered. Fees are £25.

The start will be from Market Place, Ramsey 8am (early start) or 9am for the main field.

Entries for the half-mountain marathon (22km) from St John’s to Port Erin will be available on the day at £15. This event starts at 1pm.
