After a long break, youth trials recommenced at a damp Scarlett last week with a round of Peveril MCC’s Dan Kneen series.

Always a challenging venue, the youngest competitor was E class competitor Lilly Peters, who only recently turned four, following in the footsteps of her brother and sister. She bravely negotiated her Oset 12.5 through all three laps to drop a mere 33 marks on her debut.

In D class, the battle at the front was between series leader Oliver Kennington and Harrison Doyle. Oliver went clean on his final lap to finish on 10 marks, six clear of his rival.

There was an even tighter contest for third place between Clodagh Higgins and Isla Kennington, where a mistake on the penultimate section by the latter enabled Clodagh to overhaul her by a single mark.

C class was battled out between previous round winner Cayden Higgins and the up-and-coming Jacob Wilson.

All square going into the final lap, an error by Jacob on section four - where he pulled a flag - meant that Cayden edged clear to take his third win of the year on a total loss of nine marks. Third place went to Travis Bradshaw on 30.

Summer Peters and Stan Cubbon went head-to-head in the B class, with Jack Asbridge hot on their heels.

Each outperforming the other on at least one of their laps, ultimately it was Summer who came out on top to take the win.

Kaytlyn Adshead took advantage of her regular rivals being absent to drop 11 marks on the hardest route to take the win.

l Peveril MCC wishes to thank the land owners, observers and volunteers.

The next rounds of the Dan Kneen series will be in the form of a two-day event over the weekend of August 1-2 at Glen Lough, Glen Vine.
