Three Manx rally drivers commence their respective 2020 UK championship campaigns this weekend at the Cambrian Rally in North Wales.
Maxx Bradshaw, 18, will be contesting his first ever forest rally behind the wheel of the family Mitsubishi Evo III.
’It feels like I’ve been waiting forever for this opportunity,’ he said, earlier this week. ’I can’t wait to get into the forests and gain some very important miles.
’It’s going to be a long year but I have my sights firmly set on being a front runner in the BTRDA juniors and aiming for some good overall results when confidence grows.’ Maxx’s sponsors are DB Autos & Sons, Renov8 and IM1 Car Centre.
Steve Ormond-Smith will be doing the same events in a Mitsubishi Evo VII and, similar to Bradshaw, will be starting three different championship campaigns.
He finished third in the 2019 Fiesta Challenge so has experience in most of these events. His backing will come from ORMCO accountants.
Rory McCann will be driving a historic Avenger and hopes to compete in the Welsh championship as well as the Manx Rally Championship in his more familiar Honda Civic.
All three locals will be using UK co-drivers for their respective campaigns.
’It is a really positive sign to see three Manx drivers all competing in major UK championships and I am really looking forward to my third forest rally,’ said Rory.
Based in Llandudno, the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally is round one of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship so this will be a good opportunity for Manx drivers to show what they can do in front of all the big players.
The 2020 BRC takes place in six different countries - Wales, Ireland, England, Belgium, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
