The Isle of Man will be well represented at the OVO Energy Tour of Britain which fires into life this Saturday.

The eight-stage race kicks off in Glasgow and no fewer than four Manx or island-based cyclists will take to the startline at the home of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Mark Cavendish will lead the line for Dimension Data and, with 10 stage wins on his palmares at this event alone, he is the most prolific rider in the event’s 16-year history. Having missed out on a place at the UCI World Road Race Championships, the Manxman will be eager to end his season on a high.

Onchan resident and reigning British National Road Race Champion Ben Swift also has one ToB stage win to his name and the Team Ineos ace will be hoping to add to that at what will be his 10th year competing in the event.

The Tour of Britain will be one of Team Wiggins Le Col’s final races as a professional outfit after they recently announced that they would be folding at the end of the season. Therefore, the British outfit will want to put on a good show and the riders will be keen to impress in front of any potential suitors, including the Isle of Man’s own Mark Christian who has previous success at the race, finishing 12th overall in 2016.

Completing the local quartet for this year’s race is Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes in-form man Matthew Bostock who recently won British Cycling’s National Circuit Series and could be a dark horse.
