Manx Harriers broke Northern AC’s recent domination of Jude’s Sportshall athletics event at the National Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Hosted by Western Athletics Club, in memory of longtime former committee member Judith Perriam, the popular challenge involves Manx Harriers, Northern Athletics Club and the hosts in a series of indoor activities.

It is normally held at the end of January, but this year’s was postponed by the first circuit breaker lockdown, so this was almost five months later than scheduled because of the Covid pandemic restrictions.

Manx Harriers performed well to gain the overall honours for the first occasion in the event’s history, with Northern a close second and Western a comparatively distant third.

There were some fine performances from all teams, but of course the whole point of the afternoon was to have fun, and that was achieved.

It was fitting that Jude’s son, Alex Perriam, was there to present the coveted trophy and medals at the completion of the competition.

Thanks go to the staff at the NSC for their help, also to the coaches, parents and friends who helped with the successful running of the event, but mostly to the athletes for giving their all.

All competitors and officials are looking forward to joining forces again in January 2022 for another afternoon of frenzied competition.
