Port Erin Tennis Club has successfully completed work to improve two of its courts at Breagle Glen.

The courts have been in need of improvement for many years: the tarmac surface had deteriorated, which primarily led to safety concerns, but also a very uneven bounce on occasions.

Fund-raising events were held in order to generate money, but this was insufficient to cover the major costs involved. Fortunately, when the Manx Lottery Trust was approached, they were very supportive.

The club made a formal application to the MLT and a grant was awarded for the resurfacing and renovation of one court. Inspired by this very generous donation, club members contributed additional funds to enable a second court to be similarly improved.

Despite setbacks because of the pandemic, work was eventually started in mid-April which was supported by Port Erin Commissioners, from whom the club lease the courts.

The club was very pleased to be able to employ local businesses to carry out the work. Contractors TCQ laid the tarmac and PSMLines marked out the courts.

With the recent easing of lockdown restrictions, Port Erin Tennis Club is now able to look forward to a bright future with much-improved facilities.

New members are always welcome and the club is looking forward to a summer of sociable and enjoyable tennis thanks to the Manx Lottery Trust.
