Three Manx lads made the long journey to South Wales worthwhile last weekend with dominant performances in the Cwm Lladdfa Enduro.

The weather conditions were horrific for the Sherco Offroad event organised by Maesteg MCC at the northernmost end of the Llynfi Valley, near Port Talbot.

Jacob Wilson and Leo Gray, both aged 10, took to the start line on their 85cc Husqvarnas to contest a one-hour race in the youth eight to 12-year class.

Victoria Road Primary School (Castletown) pupil Wilson took the holeshot and controlled the race from the front.

Hard work in the early stages meant he had a relatively calm pit stop and eventually completed 28 laps of the course to finish five laps ahead of his nearest challenger Curtis Mealham in second place and nine laps ahead of Rhodri Tamplin in third.

Leo Gray had a steady start to the race, but an early spill on lap two set him back somewhat. The Henry Bloom Noble pupil did not let the crash affect and he really got stuck in to secure a top-six finish, completing 15 laps within the hour.

Next up was the 13 to 15 class event which saw Alfie Matheison-Nelson step up to the line on his similar 85cc Husqvarna with larger wheels.

The 13-year-old King William’s College student was second off the line behind 15-year-old Luka Aston and rode a very mature race in which he waited patiently for his chance to overtake.

Approaching the half-way point in the race Aston made a small mistake, giving Mathieson-Nelson the chance to strike. He successfully grabbed the lead and simply didn’t look back, stretching his lead lap-by-lap to take the overall win from Aston and Jake Tansley in third.

No lap counts have been released for the 13-15 class.
