Amelia Sharpe and Max Walker have been selected to represent Great Britain in the junior events at the 2019 UCI World Road Championships in Yorkshire.

No fewer than five Isle of Man riders had been long-listed for the championships, with Lizzie Holden, Sharpe, Walker, Tosh Teare and Matthew Bostock all included on the list for next week’s prestigious annual event between September 22-29.

Amelia will be riding in the junior women’s road race and time trial alongside Elynor Backstedt, Eluned King, Anna Shackley and Abi Smith.

Max (pictured right) will compete in the junior men’s road race in the GB team alongside Lewis Askey, Alfie George, Leo Hatyer and Sam Watson.

Unfortunately there was bad news for Lizzie who was left out of the elite women’s road race and time trial plus the mixed team relay time trial.

This despite the Drops Cycling star - who celebrated her 22nd birthday yesterday (Thursday) - having been in superb form throughout the 2019 cycling season.

Indeed, only last week the multple British National Road Championship medalist clinched the best young rider jersey at the Premondiale Giro Toscana Int. Femminile (Women’s Tour of Tuscany) in Italy after finishing sixth in general classification.

At the time of going to press, British Cycling had not confirmed their line-up for the under-23 men’s road race, meaning Bocky may well yet join Sharpe and Walker in Yorkshire next week.
