A rare continental stoneware memorial urn for the Austrian motorcycle racer Karl Gall, who died following a pre-War practice crash at the TT, is to be auctioned in London this Monday.

Gall succumbed to his injuries four days after crashing at Ballaugh Bridge in 1939. A bronze plaque of his face and helmet, bearing the BMW logo, is inset into a gate post on the left-hand exit from the bridge, opposite the car park to the Raven Hotel.

The memorial urn has green and cream decoration, with cast reliefs either side, one depicting Gall racing his BMW 255 Kompressor, the other a head portrait wearing a helmet and goggles within a laurel wreath. Between are two cast angels, all in good condition.

The items, with an estimate price of £1,000- £1,500, is being auctioned by Graham Budd Auctions - email [email protected] or phone +44(0) 208 366 2525.
