Sixty years ago yesterday, Mike Hailwood recorded his maiden two victories on the Mountain Course with wins in the 125cc and 250cc TTs.
A star was most certainly born and Mike the Bike picked up the trophies later the same evening in the Villa Marina Gardens in front of a packed audience.
While TT fans are again lamenting the lack of racing this week, Mike Hailwood Foundation will be hosting a drop in day on Saturday (June 12) between midday and 4pm at the Hailwood Centre, behind the TT Grandstand.
There will be no admission charge and all are welcome.
More than 40 years have now passed since the great man died in a tragic car accident and, to celebrate his life, memorabilia and bikes from the period will be on display to help raise bike enthusiasts’ spirits.
Refreshments will be available and good craic is the aim along with the appearance of some special machinery associated with Mike for fans to enjoy.
If you have a machine or memorabilia linked to Mike Hailwood, or a period race machine which you fancy bringing along to display, please contact Dave Ronan on 835810 (email [email protected]) or Adrian Earnshaw 628973 ([email protected]) to discuss, or simply come along on the day.
