Christmas is coming early for one of the Manx Hockey Association Mixed Cup finalists with both teams unexpectedly if deservedly making their way to this weekend’s final.

For Canaccord Genuity Vikings B, avoiding relegation would have been the first target when the season started but a string of impressive results has seen them secure a mid-table finish and the bonus of a place in the Cup final.

Having competed for titles for several seasons, West Coast Fitness Valkyrs have been steadily rebuilding of late, culminating in their tactical defeat of Vikings A to set up this encounter with Vikings B.

This promises to be a close game and a repeat of the match two weeks ago where Valkyrs edged the result 3-2 will ensure a thrilling contest for the expected good crowd at the NSC on Saturday.

MHA Mixed Plate

Having completed their league campaign with a 100 per cent record, Saracens Sabres should be confident of completing the double by securing the Mixed Plate.

But there are some feisty individuals in the Ramsey Crookall Bacchas Mixed C team and, while the result will not be a formality, a comfortable win for Saracens early November indicates the Plate going south on this occasion.

A vital win for Valkyrs under-16s against Harlequins last week has set them up for a late surge to take the honours in the pre-Christmas U16 league.

A win for opponents Vikings would bring them level on points with Valkyrs but goal difference means they cannot catch them even if the westerners slip up in their final game against Saracens.

Valkyrs need a win and as draw from their last two games to take the title.

Rossborough Insurance Indoor Finals

Twelve weeks of fast-paced indoor hockey reach a grand finale on Monday in the National Sports Centre main hall, with the various finals taking place.

An assortment of fixtures have brought us to this evening, well-orchestrated again by Kim Carney.

The Mixed and Women’s Premiership games are contested by Vikings A and Bacchas A while the Men’s Premiership final is an all-Bacchas affair.
