Manx Hockey Association’s 2021-22 indoor finals have been taking place at the National Sports Centre over the past couple of weeks.

Four of the finals were held on Monday evening last week on the NSC’s indoor pitches, while the Men’s Division One showpiece took place seven days earlier.

The best of the island’s indoor hockey players kept all spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle in each of the games.

MIXED INDOOR

PREMIERship FINAL

Canaccord Genuity Vikings A and Ramsey Crookall Cronkbourne Bacchas A went head-to-head in the mixed indoor Premiership final, with a plucky young Bacchas side facing a Vikings team that combined both speed and experience.

The blacks were quick off the mark to get on the scoreboard and quickly brought the score to 2-0 before increasing their lead to 4-1 at half-time.

Vikings then kicked off the third quarter by slotting two quick goals through Scott Mason who made quick work of the Bacchas defence and calmly slotted home more goals to add to his side’s tally.

Bacchas had a quick break twice and managed to bring the score back to 6-3 heading into the final quarter but, after some more end-to-end play in the last quarter, the final score ended 7-3 in favour of the blacks. Player of the match: Scott Mason (Vikings).

MIXED DIVISION One FINAL

The other indoor final to take place last Monday at the NSC saw a display of the next generation of Manx hockey and experienced players facing off to take home the Mixed Division One title.

Bacchas B opened up a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to captain Luca Parlato slotting home goals and GK Rachel Overman keeping the J. Qualtrough & Co Ltd Castletown C attack at bay.

The final quarter saw the reds throw everything at the whites by bringing the score to 4-3 with seconds to go, but the final whistle soon sounded as Bacchas emerged victorious over the southerners to round off the evening’s fixtures.

Final score: 4-3 to Bacchas B. Player of the Match: Jai Patel (Castletown).

l Manx Hockey Association would like to thank everyone involved and the Isle of Man Hockey Umpires Association for providing umpires who had the tough job of not only officiating the fixtures, but choosing the player of the match for each game.

Also a massive thanks go to James Hamlet from the generous sponsor of both the indoor and outdoor leagues, Rossborough Insurance, who presented the winners trophies.

Well done to all involved - the MHA wishes you all a Merry Christmas.
