Isle of Man junior karter Charlie Gregg secured the HWE BIM Services Ltd British SuperOne InterMax title recently.

Team-mate and fellow islander Alex McCullagh finished sixth in the Junior Rotax championship which came to a climax at Shenington Kart Circuit in Banbury.

The final two rounds of the 12-round National Karting Championship began in atrocious conditions on Saturday, but Gregg maintained the pace that had carried him to the top of the standings, crossing the line second in the InterMax final.

Conditions improved for Sunday’s round 12 finale, with the circuit drying as the InterMax field took to the track. Gregg responded emphatically, completing a clean sweep of first places in qualifying, the heats and the final.

That result confirmed him as champion as Gregg finished the season on 1,253 points, 92 clear of his nearest rival, completing a highly consistent campaign with the SuperOne InterMax crown.

McCullagh’s weekend followed a slightly different pattern. The Junior Rotax driver showed competitive pace in Saturday’s wet conditions, securing fourth place in the final.

Sunday brought very close racing, with several drivers separated by only a handful of championship points. McCullagh kept out of trouble and crossed the line a strong seventh, gaining valuable experience in a fiercely contested finale.

He finished sixth overall in the Junior Rotax championship. While the final result did not fully reflect his progress, it underlined his ability to challenge at national level.

Both drivers will now head to Silverstone in November to collect their championship trophies, with Gregg celebrating a title-winning season and McCullagh completing a campaign that showed clear promise.
