The first athletics event of 2020 will be the traditional St John’s Fell Race on New Year’s Day.

The popular run to the summit of Slieau Whallian and back will again be supported by long-time sponsor Moochers on Facebook.

Start time will be 2pm with registration at St John’s FC clubhouse from 12.30 until 1.45pm. The distance is 5km (three miles) involving 275 metres of ascent. Minimum age to enter is 12 years on race day.

The organisers strongly advise all runners to carry a waterproof jacket. If the weather is particularly poor this may be compulsory. Competitors are invited to wear fancy dress but please keep this within reason.

Charities to benefit from the donation of all entry fees will be Alzheimer’s IoM and the Ardwhallan Outdoor Pursuit Centre.
