Both the men’s and women’s island hockey teams are playing in the Plum tournament in Essex this weekend therefore there are no PwC Mixed Premier League games.

A full write-up of the tournament will be in next week’s Manx Independent.

Although there are no top flight games on home soil this Saturday, there is plenty of action on the cards in all of the other divisions.

In PwC Mixed Division One, Vikings B and Saracens Sabres stated their intent for a title challenge with opening-day wins against Valkyrs B and Harlequins A respectively.

Vikings will be hoping to continue their title push against a Bacchas C side who also won their opening game against early relegation candidates Vikings C and this game will prove to be the first real test of Bacchas’ title credentials.

Harlequins A face a tough test against a strong and determined Valkyrs B side that has a number of experienced former island players in their squad.

This is already a must-win for Harlequins if they have any hope of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The other game in this league sees Vikings C take on Saracens Sabres in a match that should see the latter come away with both points on offer.

In PwC Mixed Division Two, Castletown Cammags face their first game of the season after last week’s walkover gave them two easy points. They take on Ramsey Ravens who ran out narrow winners against Valkyrs C on the opening day.

Saracens Colts, after their opening victory against Bacchas Colts, must be one of the teams vying for the league title now and have demonstrated the progress that they have made.

They play Valkyrs C this week in what will be a physical game and, if the young Saracens players can stand up to the physicality from bigger and older players, then there is no reason they cannot come away with the win.

The other game in Division Two see Ramsey Rookies take on Bacchas Colts in what could already be a huge step towards survival in this league, with the two teams currently bottom of the table.

In PwC Mixed Division Three, Castletown Southerners take on Harlequins Colts. Last week Southerners demolished Harlequins B by 13 goals to nil and, while the Southerners team was strengthened by a couple of Cammags players, they will be expecting another win here to maintain their fine start.

Vikings D take on Valkyrs D and, with both sides winning on the opening weekend, this could be a very close game.

Vikings Colts and Saracens Sharks will be looking to pick up their first points of the season. The final Division Three game sees the vastly-experienced Bacchas D take on Harlequins B who are looking to get some points on the board after last week’s aforementioned demolition at the hands of Southerners.
