Despite most of the titles in Manx hockey already being sealed, there’s still plenty to play for as we enter the final two weeks of the season.

In the PwC Women’s Premier League, champions Canaccord Genuity Vikings just need a point against Partitionware Castletown A this weekend to guarantee they are the victors.

Having defeated the southerners by 13 goals in the cup semi-final on Tuesday night thanks to a five-star performance from ex-red Sarah Blackman, only the most ardent of Town fans could see anything other than a league-sealing victory.

Emma Leeming’s Ramsey Crookall Bacchas A will look to derail LJ Ramsey’s bid for second place. Both of these teams have pushed Vikings close this season and with the squads making steady progress this should be an interesting affair.

Caitlin Dodd’s Harlequins play Crowe Morgan Valkyrs in the final game, knowing that a point should be enough to ensure Premier League safety if Vikings claim both points against Castletown.

With the top two all but confirmed in the PwC Men’s Premier League, attention will be turning to the relegation fight.

Bottom side LJ Ramsey meet Alex Birch’s Vikings A and will be hard pressed to claim anything from the on-form All-Blacks who seem full of goals at present.

There’s an interesting proposition for Castletown A as they meet third-placed Valkyrs. The Peel side will undoubtedly start as favourites, but with Town desperate for both points to stave off relegation, it should be an intense battle.

The Bacchas derby completes the day’s play in the Premier, in which the champions should claim both points on offer.

The most exciting division looks to be PwC Men’s Division One where three teams are still in contention for league glory.

Vikings B are in pole position but will be tested by Nick Watt’s Valkyrs B who hit nine in their previous game.

Should the All-Blacks slip up, it will be a chance for the winner of Bacchas Colts or Harlequins A to move to the summit, both clubs sitting just only points behind.

George Powell’s Saracens A complete the line-up against a struggling Ramsey B side, although Ramsey fired six past the Sky Blues when they met earlier in the season.

With league leaders Bacchas B not playing in PwC Women’s Division One, the onus is on Beckie O’Brien’s Vikings B to take the win against Valkyrs B and set up a grandstand finish when they meet the whites next week.

Elsewhere, Valkyrs C are looking for their first win of the season when they travel north to face Ramsey B.

First meets second in PwC Men’s Division Two, as champions Vikings Colts meet Castletown B before Bacchas C take on a Harlequins B side fresh off the back of their first win last week.

Finally to PwC Women’s Division Two and Gail Joughin’s title-winning Saracens play their final game against Castletown B while Harlequins B and Bacchas C complete a busy day of Manx hockey.DAVE CLARK-WILSON
