As we enter the final week of games across the Manx hockey divisions, it’s time to look at the potential permutations in some thrilling relegation and promotion battles.
It’s showdown time in the PwC Men’s Premier League at Castle Rushen High School, as Partitionware Castletown A host LJ Ramsey A.
The southern side sit one point ahead of their opponents and need to draw or win to retain their top division safety.
Jonathan Gower-Jackson’s northerners need to claim both points on offer, but having beaten the Reds earlier in the season, this one promises to be tight.
There’s a preview of the Men’s Cup final between Ramsey Crookall Bacchanalians A and Crowe Morgan Valkyrs A as the two meet, with the Peel side aiming to be the first team to take anything off the champions.
Bacchas B take on a Canaccord Genuity Vikings A side they drew with previously this season, but with in-form Vikings off the back of three straight victories it will be a tall order.
PwC Women’s Premier League and all looks to be settled as far as the top and bottom are concerned.
Dani Kelly’s Castletown need to spring a surprise on third-placed Valkyrs to have any chance of survival and will need Bacchas to not slip up against Harlequins.
First meet second as Lauren Brew’s Ramsey aim to thwart the Vikings A juggernaut and will hope they have taken their foot off the gas after claiming their 10th consecutive title last week.
There’s all to play for in PwC Men’s Division One, with captains and coaches consulting their calculators to see what they need.
Simply put, if Vikings B take both points against Saracens A then they will seal promotion to the top division.
The two sides shared the spoils earlier in the season and if they did again then Harlequins could claim the crown by defeating Ramsey B.
Ramsey are desperate for both points in order to maintain their spot in the league, but will need Bacchas Colts to do them a favour and defeat Nick Watt’s Valkyrs B at the same time.
If Ramsey could pull off the great escape, it’ll be Valkyrs who are replaced in the division by PwC Men’s Division Two champions Vikings Colts.
Finally to PwC Women’s Division One, where the maths potentially gets even more confusing.
Bacchas B need a draw against Beckie O’Brien’s Vikings B to clinch the top spot they’ve held all season, but a defeat by three goals or more will see Vikings promoted.
At the other end, Valkyrs B meet Valkyrs C, with the latter almost certainly facing the drop unless they can manage a seven-goal victory against their higher team.
They will be replaced in the division by Saracens A, who claimed the PwC Women’s Division Two title two weeks ago.
