Manx runner Joe Reid posted a new season’s best as he picked up his first senior England vest in Austria over the weekend.

The 800 metre runner from Port Erin, won his heat in a time of 1 minute 48.37 seconds to clock the second quickest time of the event. Only the Czech Republic’s Filip Snejdr ran quicker than Reid who was just outside a qualifying time for March’s European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old’s run at the Vienna Indoor Classic was two seconds quicker than the time he set at the BMC Sheffield Grand Prix at the start of January.

Posting on Facebook the Manx Harrier said: ’Really pleased with how it went. [Time of] 1.48.37 which is only 0.05s off my outdoor personal best and 0.37s off the European Indoor Championships qualifying standard.

’Happy but also keen to race again as I know I can go quicker in the right type of race.’
