Ieuan Owen shaved another eight seconds off his recently established record for a single lap of the Peel Headlands course on Friday evening.
The 17-year-old member of host club Western AC won the scratch round of the Dave Phillips running series a fortnight earlier in a time of 10min 20sec.
His round two effort of 10.12 over the same undulating two-mile course placed him 28th on handicap out of a field of 48.
There was a good contest for best time in the female class with Madison McMullan edging out Northern AC clubmate Lottie Stennett by three seconds, with another NAC girl, Catherine Perry, at a further four seconds.
Hannah Taplin was first over the line on handicap but as it was her first race of the shortened series her time goes into the results for the first round, where everyone was off scratch. Therefore Carolanne Hanley of Northern AC was declared best on handicap by 49 seconds from veteran Miriam Kelly and Western’s Katie Lawrence. The first four to finish the race were all female.
Former squash player Clive Dugdale (IoM Veteran Athletes’ Club) won the two-lapper on handicap with an actual time of 29.17, with John Quaye a comfortable second.
Quickest over the two laps was Dave Bignell in 23.18. Runner-up to Ben Scott in round one, Bignell lopped a huge 38s off that time (Scott was a non-starter with a hamstring injury).
Joel Smith (23.27) and Nigel Quaye (23.46) were the only other runners to go sub-24.
Quickest of the females was unattached runner Becky Watterson in 27.35, edging out Dawn Atherton of the host club by a solitary second.
Northern AC’s Harry Stennett produced a record time of 6m 30s for two laps of the promenade course to win over-nine boys by a huge margin. Abi Sinclair was second quickest overall in 7.09, winning the girls’.
The under-nines saw Billy McMullan (Western) and Poppy Clayton (Manx Harriers) recording identical times of 3m 40s for the one-lapper to each win their respective classes.
l The shortened league concludes on Tuesday week, July 21, at 7pm.
