Manx boxer Mathew Rennie makes his second professional outing in Liverpool next Saturday evening.
The 20-year-old won his first pro contest in December beating Gary McGuire on points 40-35 in the pair’s four-round welterweight contest.
Reflecting on his stylish victory over the Scotsman Rennie said: ’My first fight couldn’t have gone any better and I was recently announced as VIP Promotions’ Debut of the Year.
’We have watched the fight back a few times and we are picking small details to improve on for my next fight.’
Liverpool-based Rennie has been working hard since his debut win and said: ’Training is going really well.
’I have linked up with a new strength and conditioning team, Limitless Fitness, and I am already feeling the benefit.
’I have just over a week until the fight and I feel terrific.’
More than 90 made the trip from the Isle of Man to support the former Manx ABC man in his first pro fight at the Liverpool Olympia.
His second fight for the VIP Promotions stable will also take place at the same venue and Rennie is hopeful that more Manxies will make the trip next weekend: ’The support I’ve had since I turned professional has been brilliant.
’I had family and friends come from all over the UK, Isle of Man, Scotland and even Jersey to watch my debut and I’m hoping to keep the number rising for each fight.’
’I can’t thank everyone enough for coming to watch me. Hopefully the support I get on the small stage now will help me get onto the big stages in the future.’
Mathew would like to thank his sponsors Melville Joinery, Rennie Roofing and Kalum Raby Plastering.
