Bevan Rodd will make his England rugby debut in this weekend’s Autumn Test match against Australia.
The former Buchan student, who was born in Scotland but grew up in the Isle of Man, was drafted into Eddie Jones’s squad earlier this week to replace Joe Marler who tested positive for Covid-19.
Marler himself was called up as a replacement for last week’s test match against Tonga but now has to isolate for 10 days which has opened the door for Rodd to make his England debut.
Initially, Bevan was named on the bench for the game but prop Ellis Genge tested positive for Covid-19 on the eve of the match and had to withdraw from the squad, elevating Rodd into the starting line-up for his debut.
The Sale Sharks prop - who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Manchester-based club during the 2020-21 campaign - was called up by England during the summer for test games against the United States of America and Canada, but did not feature in either game.
Uncapped Rodd was preferred over Saracens star Mako Vunipola who has 76 caps and was a British and Irish Lion in Tests in July.
l England’s Autumn Test match with Australia takes place at Twickenham, kicking off at 5.30pm.
The match will not be on terrestrial TV but will instead be streamed live on Amazon Prime Video.
