Douglas RUFC demolished Vagabonds in the semi-finals of this season’s Shimmin Wilson Manx Cup on Thursday evening.

In a snapshot of the season for both teams, the result at Ballafletcher was not unexpected but the scale of the scoreline was somewhat surprising.

Vagabonds were shorn of guiding light Aiden O’Shea but Douglas fielded Carl Conroy, Josh Carine, Max Morley-Green, Aaron Mason and Dave Sherwin to rest some of the bigger guns for Saturday’s final.

Robert Todd started the ball rolling with a try after only five minutes and by half-time Conroy, Bryn Snellgrove, Carine, Karl Evans and Morley-Green had added scores.

With Luke Hyland and Morley-Green dotting over conversions and Tom Rowley kicking a Vagas penalty on 30 minutes, Douglas were 48-3 and over the horizon.

Another 69 unanswered points in the second half confirmed the hopefully temporary gulf between the arch rivals in front of the quietest touchline in 41 years of Manx Cup observation as Douglas ran out dominant 117-3 winners.

Tries - Max Morley-Green 4, Carl Markl-Ferns and Carl Conroy 3, Karl Evans, Josh Carine and Bryn Snellgrove, Robert Todd, Adam Boyd and Conor Stephens; Conversions - Hyland 5, Morley-Green 6.
