Ramsey have a huge pre-Christmas rugby feast planned at Mooragh Park on Saturday as they take on Vagabonds in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three.
The day gets under way with a under-13s fixture at 9.45am, followed by u15s at 10.45.
The clubs’ two second teams meet at 12.30pm with the first teams finally locking horns at 2.15pm.
Ramsey currently head the standings and have an 11- point lead.
Nevertheless Vagas are coming up fast on the rails and their win against Oxton Parkonians last week moved them up to fourth. With second-placed Ellesmere Port playing third-placed Old Bedians this weekend, a bonus-point win could see Vagas move into third place or perhaps even second.
Ramsey won the campaign’s earlier meeting at Ballafletcher 34-12 - Vagas’ only home defeat so far this season.
Their home scalps include an impressive defeat of Ellesmere Port in a tight game back in September.
Ramsey have swept all before them with the exception of an away defeat at Oldershaw.
Since the last time the pair met, there have been a couple of changes to that Vagas side which lost to Ramsey.
MC De Jongh has come in at hooker and appears to be a solid scrummage and is certainly very effective in loose play.
Steve Logan has come into the backline and his pace has become a serious attacking weapon for Vagas with him scoring and making a hatful of tries.
These two, coupled with an effective tight five, together with the pace of Rob Pease out wide, will mean that Ramsey will have to graft to take the win.
Harri Radford was the only casualty in the Ramsey squad following last week’s away win at Old Bedians.
His ankle injury makes him doubtful for this game.
Anthony Fergusson may, however, be available in the second row which could see a change, while Ethan Benjamin, who tweaked a shoulder in warm up last Saturday, may also come back into the squad while Mark Oldfield’s suspension keeps him out.
With any one of seven teams still realistically in with a shout, the competition in this league is definitely hotting up as we reach the season’s halfway stage.
Vagas, however, have a daunting January ahead when they face Ruskin Park, Ellesmere Port and Old Bedians on consecutive weekends.
They will be super keen to take points this weekend but the formbook suggests Ramsey will start as favourites.
