Prenton are Ramsey’s guests in South Lancs/Cheshire Division One this weekend and, while nothing can be taken for granted, this appears on paper to be a great chance for the Manx team to take five points.

The Tranmere-based side are next to bottom of the standings and haven’t won since October 8. They’ve scored fewer than anyone else and conceded more with an average losing score of 33 points per match. Ramsey won the away leg and will fancy their chances at home too.

The northerners are, however, rapidly running out of games. They have nine left this season and are 38 points off the top. Leaders Aspull will be beyond Ramsey with just two more wins and they will visit the Mooragh on March 4.

Congleton currently hold the second promotion place but they are 21 clear of Ramsey, although the latter have a game in hand. Like Aspull, Congleton are due a trip to the Mooragh so it’s not yet beyond the Manx side, although it is looking less and less likely.

With home advantage Ramsey should have some unavailable players returning to the side. Jarred Callister has been in great form recently and he should be available for the front row. Similarly Ramsey’s enforcer Anthony Fergusson should be available this week for the second row.

In his absence last week iron man prop Michéal Flynn was in charge of the rough stuff and he gave away a crucial penalty in the defeat at Ellesmere Port. Dale Radcliffe showed excellent form for the B team and is likely to be in with a shout too. One name definitely on the sheet will be young scrum half Liam Sommer who was excellent away last Saturday and is clearly one to watch for the future.

Kick off at the Mooragh will be at the slightly earlier time of 1.15pm to try and accommodate Prenton’s flight arrangements.
