Douglas secured promotion to North One West by the narrowest of margins at Port-e-Chee on Saturday, beating De La Salle 15-14.
Douglas led 15-0 at half-time after first-half tries from Max Singer and Lance Wyllie, plus a penalty and a conversion from Bryn Snellgrove.
A stiff breeze blowing down the pitch gave De La Salle some assistance in the second half and with five minutes to play wing Rob Foxton earned his side a penalty try which was converted by Chris Petrou to leave the deficit at 15-7. In the closing stages Ryan Worthy powered over for the Salford outfit and Petrou’s second conversion made it 15-14 and a tense finish for the Douglas faithful.
The nerve held, however, and when Carl Murray kicked the ball dead two minutes later the cheers were a mixture of joy and relief.
