There’s only one domestic rugby game this weekend in the Manx Cup and it’s at Ballafletcher where Sure Vagabonds host PDMS Southern Nomads.

The other scheduled game between Ramsey and Douglas Celts has been postponed because of a somewhat depleted Celts squad getting call-ups to cover Douglas’ first team game against Penrith.

Nomads won the reverse fixture 41-12 at Ballakilley last month and Jack Sleight’s men will be looking to pick up a notable double over Vagabonds.

Nomads lost their last outing 36-14 against Ramsey, but the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect how well they played: the Nomads defence was very aggressive and Ramsey made few scoring chances.

But what they did create was finished very clinically and they built a 19-0 half-time lead. Nomads were right back into the game after the break and, while Ramsey took the second half 17-14, the margins were much much tighter.

Mark Young was excellent with the ball in hand or off the boot, while Max Fairbairn and Tony Quinn looked dangerous on the ball.

Vagas too lost their last outing by a similar scoreline, 39-17 away at Douglas Celts. While Vagas are likely to be missing Cam Findlay, some of their youngsters are looking especially sharp.

Ethan Kermode looks better with every game: he got two for the Hornets last week and is definitely one to watch. Similarly, Cole Donnelly can play a number of positions and has the pace to trouble most defences.

If Vagas can link this pair up with the likes of Mark Oldfield and Nathan Gibson, they’ll give Nomads a good run for their money.

l Kick off at Ballafletcher is at 1.30pm.
