The debuts continue to come thick and fast in the latest instalment of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

No fewer than seven players make their seasonal bow in the hypothetical XI as the halfway point of the Canada Life Premier League season appears on the horizon.

Donning the goalkeeper gloves for the first time in the 2021-22 season is Marown shot-stopper Nick Corlett who produced an excellent display in between the sticks to help the Crosby side claim a shock 3-2 win at Peel.

Another surprise result - perhaps the biggest of the day - came at Garey Mooar where Union Mills stunned reigning champions Corinthians 2-1, therefore the Millers are well represented in Team of the Week.

Owen Quayle was highly impressive at the back for Mills during that game and edged out his team-mate Nathan Yates for a place in the TotW four-man defence.

Joining Quayle in the backline are St George’s ace Alex Harrison, Douglas Royal’s James Halliday and DHSOB’s Drew Ward.

The latter has performed well in defence for Old Boys during recent games and was instrumental in helping the Blackberry Lane side return to winning ways with a 3-1 success away at RYCOB.

Also enjoying a victory against a northern side was Halliday who delivered another fine performance at the back for Royal as the Whites came from behind to defeat Ramsey 3-2 at Ballafletcher.

Fresh from making his FC Isle of Man debut last week, Harrison continued his welcome return from a long-term injury with a starring role for Geordies during their emphatic 5-1 win over Laxey at Glencrutchery Road.

Another to shine in that match for the Saints was Nathan Cardy who impressed Eric Clague’s player ratings panel with a fine display to earn his place in the three-man Team of the Week midfield.

Joining him in the centre of the park are Tyler Hughes of Union Mills and Jamie Agnew of Douglas Royal. Despite only being 16 years old, Hughes came off the bench to set up the equaliser before grabbing the winner to stun Corinthians.

Likewise, Agnew was another to impress after coming on as a substitute and he bagged the all-important equaliser against Ramsey prior to Taylor Andrews’ winner.

The three-man attack includes two players who are certainly no strangers to Team of the Week - Callum Stewart and Steven Priestnal - plus one who is fast making a name for himself, Nathan Draper.

Stewart produced a man-of-the-match performance and chipped in with a goal as he helped Old Boys claim three points away at Youthie, while Priestnal was the undoubted star of the show as he helped himself to four goals to put Laxey to the sword.

Former professional cyclist Draper has caught the eye for Marown so far this season and played an important role in his side’s fine win away at Peel.

Claiming the referee of the week honours for the fourth time this season is Stuart Kneen who produced a typically assured and impressive performance during the St George’s v Laxey game at Glencrutchery Road.
