The Stuart Slack Parishes Ride takes place this Sunday, starting from the main gates of the NSC (New Castletown Road entrance) with the slower groups at 8.30am, followed by the quicker groups up until 9am at the latest.

The entry is £10, including buffet lunch at St John’s. The entry sheet will remain in Bikestyle until 5pm tomorrow (Friday).

The route covers the 17 parishes in a reverse direction to the walk, beginning with Onchan, Lonan, Maughold and Lezayre, then Andreas, Bride, Jurby, Ballaugh, Michael, St German’s (Peel) and Patrick.

There will be refreshments at St John’s FC clubhouse (for those who have paid their tenner in advance!). For those wishing to complete the near-90 mile route, the ride heads up through Foxdale and down Ballamodha to visit the parish churches of Arbory, Rushen, Malew, Santon, Marown and Braddan.

This year’s designated charities are Samaritans IoM and Hospice IoM.

l The deadline for purchasing tickets for Isle of Man Cycling’s annual dinner and prize presentation is this coming Monday, November 12.

The function takes place at the newly-refurbished Woodbourne House (Masonic Hall), Woodbourne Road, Douglas on Saturday, November 24 from 7pm.

l Isle of Man Cycling Association’s annual general meeting will take place two days before the dinner on the evening of Thursday, November 22.

It will again take place in the Jimmy Crosbie Memorial Hall, Derby Road, Douglas starting at 6.30.

l It is sad to recall the death recently of former Manx Road Club member Malcolm Bradley, a regular competitor in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
