Ramsey Tennis Club hosted the Ramsey Town Cup tournament at the Mooragh Park courts recently.

There were a good entries in the men’s events, with 12 players in the singles and eight pairs in the doubles.

The leading island players entered the singles with the top four seeds making it through to the semi-finals.

Marc Chinn beat Orry Farnworth 6-2, 6-0 and Sean Drewry beat Nerijus Gricevicius 6-1, 6-1.

This set up a great final with Chinn narrowly coming out on top 6-4, 0-6, 12-10 in the Championship tie-break.

In the consolation final, Dominic Buttery beat Chris Mash 5-3, 2-4, 10-8.

The men’s doubles was run in two groups with the top two going into the semi-finals.

Drewry and Farnworth topped Group A with Adam Davies and Brian Kelly runners-up. In Group B, Jon Gower-Jackson and Kevin Drewry won all their matches with Neri and Dominic Buttery runners-up.

The semi-finals saw Drewry/Farnworth defeat Buttery/Buttery 4-1, 4-0 and Davies/Kelly beat Gower-Jackson/Kevin Drewry 2-4, 5-4, 13-11.

The final was won by Farnworth and Sean Drewry 4-0, 4-0.

There was a straight final in the women’s singles with Sarah Long winning 6-0, 6-0 against Michaela Duchonova.

Unfortunately, because of poor weather, not all of the women’s doubles matches were played but the pairing of Rosanna Manuja and Kirree Ronan were victorious in all their three matches to win the event, while Michaela Duchonova and Susan Boot were the runners-up.

The mixed doubles eight pairs split into two groups. Duchonova/Neri Buttery won all their matches with Joan Henderson and Richard Simpson runners-up.

The other group was very close as three pairs had two wins each, with Alison Hart and David Stevenson topping the group and Susan Boot and Colin Bevan close behind in second place.

In the semis, Duchonova/Buttery beat Boot/Bevan 4-1 and Henderson/Simpson beat Hart/Stevenson 4-3.

The final went to Duchonova and Buttery 4-0.

Ramsey Tennis Club would like to thank referee Paul Jarvis for all his help in running the event and Ramsey Town Commissioners for their continued support.
