Peter Hickman broke the TT’s outright lap record twice on his way to a remarkable victory in Friday's Blue Riband PokerStars Senior TT.

The Smiths Racing man won by only 2.061 seconds after an epic six-lap duel with Dean Harrison (Silicone Engineering Kawasaki), the latter leading on the corrected timing charts until the final blast over the mountain.

Hickman’s final lap of 135.452mph (16min 42.778sec) bettered the previous outright lap record he set only two laps before.

Despite being caught up behind lower starters on his final lap, Harrison still managed to lap at 134.918mph, but it wasn’t enough to keep the hard-charging Hickman at bay as he added the Senior trophy to the Superstock one he won on Wednesday.

The top two’s awesome pace meant they finished 1min 40.433s ahead of Manxman Conor Cummins, who picked up his second big bike podium of the week on the Padgett’s Honda.

Michael Dunlop seemed to struggle with the Tyco BMW throughout and had to settle for fourth ahead of Josh Brookes on the Norton and Gary Johnson on his Kawasaki.

A stunned Hickman said after the race: ’What can I say? I’m so happy - what an awesome end to what has been an up and down two weeks.’Full report in Tuesday's Isle of Man Examiner.
