Peter Hickman took to the top step of the TT podium for the first time on Monday afternoon as he claimed victory in a record-breaking RL360 Superstock race.

Hickman recovered losing 15 seconds after an early overshoot at the Oak tree prior to Braddan Bridge to edge a gripping three-way battle with Michael Dunlop and Dean Harrison.

The 31-year-old brought home his Smiths Racing BMW 4.452s ahead of the day’s earlier Supersport winner Dunlop (MD Racing BMW) on corrected time.

Harrison, who set a new outright lap record in Saturday’s Superbike race, came home third a further 9.151s behind Dunlop on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki.

Harrison’s lap record looked in danger as Hickman produced two astonishing laps of 134mph-plus on his stock bike.

Indeed his last-lap charge of 134.403mph (16m 50.601s) was only .300 of a second outside of Harrison’s time set at the weekend as he smashed the existing Superstock lap and race records.

Harrison initially set the four-lap race’s pace before Dunlop briefly jumped to the top of the charts after the pit stops at the end of lap two.

Hickman wrestled the initiative away midway through lap three, holding off the attentions of the others to land his maiden TT victory.

After the race Hickman said: ’That’s the hardest I’ve ever ridden round here. It means a lot, especially on the big bike.

’I was so angry with myself after my early mistake, I just put my head down.’

Dunlop, who admitted struggling with stability on his MD Racing BMW added:’Fair play to Pete - he ran a phenomenal pace.’

Said blistering pace of the top three meant David Johnson was a further 1 min 12.758sec behind in fourth with James Hillier fifth and Michael Rutter sixth. Newcomer Davey Todd was a highly impressive 10th overall on the Burrows Engineering Suzuki.

Manxman Conor Cummins was forced to retire at Ballaugh on lap two when on course for another top-six finish. Gary Johnson and Ian Hutchinson were also among the early retirements.
