Two more national titles were secured by IoM Youth Trials Club members on Sunday, namely Bobby Moyer and
Jacob Wilson in Derbyshire.
No fewer than eight club members tackled the final round of the 2019 YMSA National Trials Championship at a wet and sloppy Dudwood Farm, near Matlock.
Moyer led B Class going in to the final round and he was aware that a top-five finish would ensure that he would be crowned champion.
In what was his last outing on the Motorworx-prepared 125cc Gas Gas, before switching to a Beta for next year, he opted to ride the tricky sections with caution in the muddy conditions.
He battled hard all day in the four-lap event, ultimately finishing fourth to secure the title.
Also riding in B Class were fellow Team Station Garage riders Kaytlyn Adshead and Corey Peters.
Recently-crowned ACU National Girls B Class Champion Adshead showed her class against a field of boys to finish in fifth place and secure sixth in the championship on her 125 TRS.
Peters struggled a little navigating the greasy rocks in the greasy conditions, but pushed on to bring his Beta machine home in a respectable sixth place for fifth in the championship.
Both Kaytlyn and Corey missed early rounds of the YMSA series.
C class riders Summer Peters and Jack Asbridge battled it out over the four laps of 10 sections, with Summer coming out on top taking third on the day to earn her the final podium position in the series.
Jack was a close fourth, also giving him a fourth-place finish in the series against some talented young riders.
Jack will be making the big step up to B Class next year, but Summer will without doubt be a contender for next year’s C Class title.
Eight-year-old Jacob Wilson had a very difficult day overcoming a few mechanical difficulties with his Station Garage-backed Oset e-bike.
Despite these setbacks he fought his way round, putting in some stunning rides to finish first on the day in D Class, securing him the overall title.
The Castletown youngster makes the step up to a petrol bike in 2020 and is already practising on the new machine to hopefully enable him to make a seamless transition to a clutch-operated mount.
Team Station Garage has enjoyed a very successful season, producing three national champions from home-grown talent.
Fellow IoM Youth Trials Club member Owen Chestnut missed out on taking his third straight series win from three appearances with a good second place on the day in Class A and fourth place in the overall championship.
Having decided to contest a couple of rounds following the end of the main British and European Youth Trials Championship seasons, Chestnut had taken comfortable wins in the previous two rounds of the YMSA series.
Making her debut in off-island competition was Owen’s seven-year-old sister Alice. She contested D Class and finished in a creditable sixth place overall, with a smile on her face throughout.
