Vikings B could have appeared favourites to beat Valkyrs C in Rossborough Women’s Division One after the latter’s defeat to Castletown B.

But the westerners have proved time and time again that they are not to be underestimated.

Having already defeated Bacchas B earlier this season, Vikings B should have heeded the warning signs. But some brilliant work from a Valkyrs’ side oozing skill with a great blend of youth and experience, the previous championship leaders were defeated.

The result pushes Valkyrs C right back into the title chase, which has tightened up again with a mere two points covering the top four teams.

Bacchas B, meanwhile, overcame their own C team to go clear of the chasing pack by two points. This trio consists of three sides - Valkyrs C, Vikings B and Castletown B - all on six points, so there is everything to play for.

With all these teams taking points off one another it would be brave of anyone to place bets on who will end up winner.

In Rossborough Women’s Premier League, Valkyrs B proved that they are more than capable of competing at the top level with a dominant win over Harlequins.

The westerners continue to impress at this level with solid defensive work surprising many of the title contenders. Following their grand slam Division One title win as top scorers with no goals conceded, they are proving to be a handful for any side in the Premier League.

Saracens took on Ramsey Rogues and Rascals in the under-16s league and, with the southern team struggling this campaign following their title win last year, this match provided them with an opportunity to get their first points of the season.

Ramsey Rogues and Rascals went into the game rooted to the bottom of the table, so the result wasn’t really in question.

Saracens were 6-0 up at the break, but Ramsey proved their ability and tenacity in the second half by keeping Saracens at bay and recording a well-deserved clean sheet in the concluding part of the game.

The result moves Saracens up to fourth place, while Ramsey Rogues and Rascals will look to continue the improved performance they produced in the second half into the next round of fixtures.

The weekend saw the delayed celebration of the 2019/2020 season with Manx Hockey Association’s awards evening on Saturday. This saw winners from all clubs recognised and a great night was had by all.

A huge thank you goes to the organisers, sponsors and attendees for making the night a success.
