There has been some confusion surrounding several Manx Hockey Association leagues.

A retraction is required this week as quirks with England Hockey’s game management system meant your correspondent did not realise there were three rounds of fixtures rather than the two that were loaded onto the system.

Therefore, no titles have yet been won and no relegation has been decided - these battles will not become clear for at least another couple of weeks.

With a third round of fixtures now loaded up properly, the picture has become much clearer. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

This doesn’t mean there is nothing to look forward to from a player or spectator point of view heading into this weekend’s games.

In the Rossborough Men’s Premier League, Valkyrs A will look to repeat their performance against Vikings A last week when they face title favourites and league leaders Bacchas A.

The latter are the best side in the division and the westerners will have to go one step further again to overcome them, but they have shown that people’s expectations can be crushed after last week.

Elsewhere in this league on Saturday, Valkyrs B take on Vikings A and Ramsey A welcome Vikings B.

In Rossborough Women’s Premier League, second place is realistically still up for grabs for at least three teams sitting behind the league leaders.

Two of the sides fighting it out for second meet when Bacchas A take on Valkyrs A. With the westerners dropping a point against Bacchas A earlier in the season, this will be a close game.

Castletown A take on a Ramsey A side enduring a difficult season so far and not really breaking into the top four, but the northerners are still a side to be reckoned with and will fight for both points.

Elsewhere, Valkyrs B take on league leaders Vikings A with the champions looking to extend their advantage even further.

Rossborough Men’s Division One remains a tight affair at the top and bottom of the table, with Bacchas A and Castletown A standout performers at the summit while Vikings C and Castletown B are fighting relegation.

Bacchas A have a week off this Saturday so Castletown A will be looking to close the gap back to two points when they face a tricky fixture against a hugely skillful if inexperienced Harlequins A side.

The relegation fight steps up a gear this weekend with Castletown B and Vikings C facing off. With the two sides only separated by two points, it is all to play for.

Harlequins can take an even bigger lead into the final Rossborough Women’s Division One fixtures should they overcome Bacchas B and Valkyrs C can somehow record their first win of the season against Castletown B.

Last week saw a potential five-point gap obliterated to one point when the southerners managed to beat the league leaders Harlequins so the lattwe will be hoping they can increase their advantage again this week.

Rossborough Men’s Division Two sees three fixtures, including a highlight game between Bacchas C and Bacchas Colts.

The C side have managed to jump past their fellow Colts team in the past couple of weeks so both outfits will be looking for the win to claim bragging rights this weekend and come the end of the season.

The closest league of them all is Rossborough Women’s Division Two. Up until last week only two points separated top from bottom, but Vikings C managed to pull two points clear owing to postponements and have now played two games more than the chasing pack.

With the Douglas side sitting out this week’s fixtures, it is a chance for the other teams to close the gap.

Bacchas C will look to retain the lead when they face bottom side Castletown C but, because of the closeness of the league, Bacchas C only just edge the favourites tag.

Elsewhere, third versus fourth sees Castletown Colts take on Ramsey B with both sides harbouring real ambitions to remain in the title race.
