Looking confident, Vikings A initially went into the Rossborough Men’s Premier League game with Bacchas A as many people’s favourites.

As much as Vikings are eager to win, Bacchas A are a team that knows how to achieve results and they took the advantage in the title race with a 3 -1 victory on Saturday.

This came courtesy of two penalty corners and a third goal when Vikings pushed forward, hunting for an equaliser.

The last goal was key for Bacchas as the likelihood of Vikings being able to beat them by three clear goals in the return fixture is looking slim. Therefore Bacchas are once again huge favourites to retain the title.

Vikings always seem to have a really good run and look promising enough, but never seem capable of overcoming the experience and might of Bacchas A.

Now the pressure is somewhat off, maybe Vikings can do the impossible but first they must get over their fear of winning.

Elsewhere Ramsey A recorded a well-earned victory against Valkyrs B. After 50 minutes the scores remained close but Ramsey were able to accelerate away with three incredible goals in the final 15 minutes.

Ramsey’s second goal was the pick of the bunch and saw Nat Smith dancing through the Valkyrs backline with a twist, side-step and a pirouette before thumping the ball into the back of the net.

Valkyrs A recorded a win as well against Vikings’ B team, but did not have things their own way with Vikings having a similar number of attacking chances but lacking the experience to make the most of them.

Vikings A overcame Bacchas A in Rossborough Women’s Premier League but the latter side showed they can compete with any team in this league by scoring two goals past the best defence in the division who, before last weekend, had not conceded.

This now puts Vikings A three points clear at the top of the table and Bacchas have dropped to fourth place.

Elsewhere, Valkyrs A kick-started their season when defeating Castletown A to move up to second place in what proved to be a very close game, winning by one goal in a seven-goal thriller.

Ramsey A meanwhile overcame a determined Valkyrs B side to take third spot, highlighted by a Premier League debut for Molly Thomas. She marked her debut with a goal for the westerners, continuing to walk in her father’s footsteps for Valkyrs.

With one point separating second to fifth places, one of these teams needs to step up and take control if anyone in this league wishes to overcome Vikings, but with all the teams below them taking points off each other Vikings sit pretty at the top of the table.

There was a thriller in the top-of-the-table clash in Rossborough Men’s Division One that resulted in Bacchas B winning another seven-goal thriller to take a two-point advantage in the race for promotion.

Castletown A will be disappointed with the result but not the performance, knowing they have another opportunity to overcome Bacchas in the title race.

Elsewhere, Harlequins A recorded a huge victory against Castletown B and showed their doubters that they can perform. George Powell led the way with five goals to kick-start ’Quins season and show all the other teams in the league they are to be feared.

Rossborough Women’s Division One saw another huge win for a Harlequins team when defeating Bacchas B 9-1 to put them three points clear at the top of the table and now look destined to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Castletown B moved into second spot with victory over Valkyrs C, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table despite some encouraging performances. With Vikings B not playing at the weekend, they are now five points behind the league leaders and all of the teams in this league have a lot of work to do if they are to catch Harlequins.

Another Harlequins side to record a huge victory was Harlequins B in Rossborough Men’s Premier League after defeating Bacchas C 11-0.

This result takes Harlequins further away from the chasing pack to sit three points clear at the top of the table. Bacchas Colts remain their closest challengers but after drawing with Ramsey B they have given themselves a difficult task to overhaul Quins.

Valkyrs C recorded their first victory of the season when overcoming Castletown Colts to place the bottom three sides all on two points and ensure the rest of the season will be a battle for every last point in an attempt to avoid the wooden spoon.

Vikings C have taken control of the Rossborough Women’s Division Two following their top-of-the-table clash against Castletown C, which Vikings won 3-0.

The result puts them top of the table, two points clear of Bacchas C (who have one game in hand) and ensure they remain the favourites for the title.

Bacchas C, meanwhile, defeated Ramsey B with all of the goal scorers for Bacchas proving that experience is key in this league, ensuring their own title challenge remains on course.
