Manx Netball Association’s walking netball sessions celebrated its fourth birthday this week.
Back in late 2015 the MNA booked the Tommy Clucas Community Sports Hall in Peel for a few walking netball tasters, little did the Association realise that they would still be running weekly in 2020.
There are now more than 25 who have signed up for the sessions which mark their fourth anniversary on February 16.
Players past and present were invited to come along to a special session on Tuesday and after playing there was lots of chatting over coffee and cake.
Much of the discussion was around taking the first step to give walking netball a go and whether the ’walking’ bit was putting people off as a few had thought it would be less active than it actually is. This is mainly because the sessions use the pitch markings at Tommy Clucas which are much bigger than a netball court.
The women are currently preparing for an exhibition match, being played at the National Sports Centre as part of the Netball Europe Under-17 Challenge at the end of this month. If you’d like to see the women in action, the exhibition match is at 6.30pm on February 28 at the NSC.
