The Isle of Man will go to the polls on Thursday, September 24, to elect 24 Members of the House of Keys for the next five-year term.
Each of the Island’s 12 constituencies will elect two MHKs, with six candidates standing in Ramsey.
Here is a look at the candidates hoping to secure one of the two seats in the constituency.
* Robert Cowell - Independent
Robert Cowell is an independent candidate and company director, standing for the second time after previously contesting the 2021 election.
He says the island has 'enormous potential' but needs government to work more closely with business and communities and deliver projects more effectively.
His priorities are growing the economy, fixing government and protecting taxpayers, and delivering for Ramsey.
* Nigel Dunmore - Independent
Nigel Dunmore is an independent candidate standing in both Ramsey and Garff. His priorities include reducing the overhead of public services, supporting business and economic growth, and helping young people and families.
* Lawrie Hooper - Liberal Vannin
Lawrie Hooper is leader of the Liberal Vannin Party and one of Ramsey's sitting MHKs. He first stood in 2011 and won a seat in 2016, making this his fourth General Election.
He says islanders are still facing many of the same challenges, including the cost of living, housing pressures, a sluggish economy and what he sees as a lack of decisive government action.
His priorities are tackling the cost of living, investing in and maintaining existing infrastructure, and creating a more open and accountable government.
* Juan McGuinness - Independent
Juan McGuinness is an independent candidate and has served as a Ramsey Town Commissioner for the past 10 years. He has worked in financial services compliance for almost two decades.
He says he wants to bring the experience gained in local government to the wider island, with decisions that are practical, properly considered and tested.
His priorities are housing, healthcare and Ramsey.
* Janine Shimmin - Independent
Janine Shimmin is an independent candidate standing for the first time. She is a qualified Blue Badge Guide and Responsible Financial Officer for the Northern Local Authorities Swimming Pool Board.
She has three children and enjoys travel, live music, yoga, and learning German and Manx.
Her priorities are the sustainability of the island, reducing government spending and housing.
* Peter Whiteway - Independent
Peter Whiteway is an independent candidate making his first General Election bid. He spent 20 years as clerk of Ramsey Commissioners and now holds a number of voluntary roles.
He says he cannot claim to have all the answers but would bring an honest, diligent and approachable approach and work collaboratively on the issues facing the island.
His priorities are healthcare, housing, education and employment opportunities for young people.
