Year of Our Island’s packed month celebrating creativity and innovation comes to close this week but not before the launch of their year-long photography competition.

Avid Manx snappers can submit their photographs from Thursday, May 31.

The competition will focus on three key themes of the project: Quality of Life, National Pride and Stronger Partnerships.

The competition will be open to all ages and skill levels.

It is hoped that the competition will encourage residents to explore more of the island throughout the year and provide many people who are new to photography with the ability to showcase their work as well as their favourite places and activities on the Isle of Man.

The competition will run until Monday, December 31 2018, and applicants can submit three photos into each of the three categories.

There will be separate prizes for each section, as well as an under-16s and an overall winner. All submissions must have been taken in 2018.

Year of Our Island chair Chris Thomas MHK said: ’This is a fantastic opportunity for people to try a new hobby this year and take a snapshot of island life.

’The aim of the Year of Our Island project is to celebrate all there is to explore, do and share and this competition will allow people to tell their story about what makes the Isle of Man a special place to live and work.’

Year of Our Island Project lead officer Jennie Wheeler was clear that this competition isn’t only for seasoned professionals.

’Our judges won’t just be looking at technique, they’ll be looking for pieces which capture the photographer’s love of the island. By having the competition run throughout the year we get to see how the different seasons change the look and feel of the Isle of Man,’ said Jennie

The shortlisted photos will be exhibited at a special Year of Our Island event in February 2019 where the winner will also be announced.
