The Manx music scene’s annual Bitching Party took place on Sunday night at the Villa Marina.
The event is so named because it was orginally conceived back in the 1980s by Phil ‘Mo’ Maddrell as a way for Manx bands to meet up at the end of the year for a drink and a good moan at each other.
One of the biggest and loudest bands was DC/AC, an AC/DC cover band led by guitarist Paul ’Dockers’ Daugherty and singer Ade Bruce.
Also playing were the innovative electro-rock group Dusty Plankton, featuring singer Christian Clague and guitarist Nell Kneale, Mae Challis and the Dirty Legends, and local indie surf rockers Voodoo Bandits.
A particularly emotional moment was when folk/funk fusion group Clash Vooar took to the stage, as their performance was in tribute to Anglin Buttimore, a former member and well-known figure in the Manx music community who died earlier this year.
Anglin was a talented pianist and sound technician, who in this capacity had assisted many local bands thoughout their careers.
At last year’s party he came on stage to receive a lifetime’s achievement award for his valuable contribution to the island’s music scene.
Clash Vooar’s line-up consisted of singers Aalin Clague and Breesha Maddrell, bassist David McLean and drummer Danny Kneale.
Organiser Ant Palfreman said: ‘All the bands that played were brilliant, there was great audience participation and it turned out to be a bit of a party – which was the original idea, really.’
All proceedings from ticket sales went to the Manx Stroke Foundation, with just over £2,000 being raised.
l The winners of this year’s Manx Music Awards were: ‘No More Mr Nice Guy’– Steve Leach; ‘Road to Nowhere’ – Andy Frankland-Davies and Kirsty Raine; ‘Band Whore’ – David Brew ‘Gig Bitch’ – Lenny Conroy; ‘20th Centenary CentreSchizoid Man’ – Dave Mclean.
