Emergency services were called out to a kitchen fire in Peel.

Fire crews from Peel and Kirk Michael responded to a 999 call at about 6.30pm yesterday (Saturday).

They arrived to find that the kitchen was smoke logged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property with a high-pressure hose reel and thermal imaging camera.

They made their way to the kitchen where it was discovered that the smoke logging was caused by an unattended food cooking under the grill.

Crews checked for any fire spread and isolated the power. The property was then ventilated using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

One adult was treated at the scene for burns to their hand.

Crews remained in attendance for about 45 minutes.

The Fire Service has been called to a number of incidents over the past few weeks involving pans of food that have been left unattended.

Thankfully in each of these cases, the fires have either been out on arrival or crews have been able to deal with them quickly .

Almost half of all accidental fires in the home are cooking related.

Pans of food left unattended, or food under the grill, can quickly develop into a more serious fire.
