The police have issued a staement which they say ’falls into the bracket of do you know what your children are doing when they are not with you’.
A post on Facebook said: ’For those parents reading this, we either love the holidays or loathe them because we have to find things for our children to do.
’We understand that sometimes you cannot do that or they simply don’t want to be at home or will prefer to hang around with friends. Traditionally, this can lead to idle fun and games, occurring at the expense of other people and private property.
’This obviously can quickly escalate to anti-social behavior and criminal damage - particularly on closed school grounds, building sites and derelict/renovation works.
’Please be aware that we actively advise property owners to protect their buildings using such methods as CCTV and anti-climb paint (also known as anti-vandalism paint).
’This substance will stain clothing and wont wash off skin for a considerable time so if your children come home with this on them, its highly likely they have been somewhere they shouldn’t be. If damage or other offences have been caused, Officers may be knocking on your doors.
’Please give your children the appropriate guidance you are trusting them to be out alone!’
