A motorist who was caught drink-driving has been fined £750 and banned from driving for 12 months.

Alison Jones, aged 56, of Campion Crescent, Peel, admitted the offence and must also retake her test at the end of the ban.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that Jones was seen by police in Crosby while driving a Renault Clio.

She was said to be swerving in the road and crossing the centre lines so she was stopped.

She failed a roadside breathalyser test and was subsequently taken to police headquarters.

Once there she failed a further test with a reading of 47 - the legal limit is 35.

She opted to take a blood test which is the legal right for readings under 50 but that test resulted in a reading of not less than 90 - the legal limit is 80.

The court heard that she has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea and co-operation with the police.

’Ms Jones is very embarrassed to find herself before the court,’ said the advocate.

’It was an error of judgement.’

Jones was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.

She must pay the fine and costs by December 31.
