A 34-year-old man who drove while he was disqualified has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service.

Andrew Hall admitted the offence as well as having no insurance and possession of cannabis.

As we reported in coverage of his past appearances in court, police spoke to Hall while he was parked in a Volkswagen Golf on South Quay in Douglas on August 6.

A search found 1.8 grams of cannabis, valued at £36 and checks revealed that he was a disqualified driver. An insurance certificate was found in the vehicle but in another person’s name.

Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that Hall, who lives in The Park, Onchan, was working for a car wash company on South Quay at the time and had been moving the vehicle only a short distance.

’It was a poor decision on Mr Hall’s part,’ said the advocate.

’He was expecting the car to be off-road when it arrived. He took the decision to move it off the street.

’This has been a wake-up call for him.’

Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith fined Hall £70 for cannabis possession and £400 for having no insurance.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
