A 22-year-old man from Jurby has been fined £500 for being drunk and disorderly.
Ricky William Russell, of The Threshold, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how, at 2.35am on July 1, poice were called to a communal hallway at Victoria House, Quine’s Corner, Douglas.
A report was received of a man and woman arguing. The man was then said to have put the woman over his shoulder and carried her off.
Police located the couple and saw Russell intimidating the woman.
They separated the pair but as they were talking to the woman Russell broke free and ran towards her.
He was pulled away but again lunged at her.
Russell was told to calm down but failed to do and was subsequently arrested.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander said that the woman in question was Russell’s former partner.
’Mr Russell had been on a night out and was contacted by her to meet and discuss their relationship.
’They did have something of a disagreement that has been overheard by members of the public.
’It is Mr Russell’s view that police misconstrued the situation. He accepts he was disorderly when police tried to intervene.
’When he broke away he says the lady had asked him for a cuddle.’
