Armed police were seen in Duke Street this morning.

Officers armed with rifles were seen beside a police 4x4 vehicle which was positioned by Starbucks Coffee shop, blocking the entrance to Duke Street.

A police van was later seen blocking off the same area.

Another police car was parked outside Joe Jennings Bookmakers, with more officers seen in this area near the Isle of Man Bank.

The police stated:'This morning police responded to a threatening message that had been passed on to them. 'As a result officers, including armed units, were deployed to the area of Strand Street. 'The public were asked to avoid the area. 'These actions were taken as a precautionary measure whilst the threat was assessed. 'Following enquiries we are satisfied there is no risk to the public and officers have stood down. We thank the Public for their assistance.'
